2017 Louisville 48 Hour Film Project

Well, last weekend we (Small Step Films) shot our piece for the Louisville 48 Hour Film Project.  We shot for nearly 16 hours over Friday night and Saturday, with some catch up on Sunday.  It was HOT!  Even though we had some indoor locations, only 1 had AC.  In fact, where we spent the majority of the time inside, it was hotter than if we were outside.  A good bit of it was in triple digits.

Too Little Time!

Well, first, I realize it has been a while since my last posting.  No other excuse than I got lazy, and really just didn’t have a lot to share…  Not that I didn’t have a lot going on, just stuff I didn’t feel like writing down.  OK, so all that is out of the way, here.  We.  Go.

First, a few things from the last few months.  In March, the film team I am a part of went to Seattle, WA for the 2017 Filmapalooza festival, which celebrates all the world-wide winners of the 48 Hour Film Project.  As we had won Louisville, we screened and received some great comments, even if we did not win an award on that stage.  There were more than 150 other films we were up against.  That’s OK, we plan on going back again this year, after we win Louisville again.

DJI Mavic Pro – Toy or Tool?

mavic1On Tuesday, September 27, drone powerhouse DJI announced a game-changing drone to the world.  It is the DJI Mavic Pro.  Some have called it an “Adventure Drone,” which I think fits it very well.  It is a drone with the same intelligence as their larger models (Phantom 4) but folds up to a size not much larger than an iPhone 7+ box.  What this means is that it is something you can nearly put in your pocket.  Even the remote is smaller than an iPhone 7, and has a range of up to 4.6 miles.

The question, however, is this a tool or a toy?

Portland, ME 2016

Just last week, my dad and I went to Portland, Maine.  It was just a quick getaway, from Saturday, Sep 3 to Saturday, Sep 10, but it also marked his first real trip without mom being along.  There was no real agenda outside of eating some great seafood and spending some time walking the harbor and maybe seeing a lighthouse or two.

I will post all the photos at the bottom of this story, there are a lot.

Lasagna Crisps

OK, so I had to try something this weekend to see if it would work.  I had seen somewhere online a way or reusing cooked lasagna pasta strips and making a crunchy, savory “crisp”.  The concept is simple for a quick snack and will let you get rid of some pasta that you would otherwise throw away.  Click the article title or below to continue to the actual steps.
