But What About “The Walking Dead”?

Aside

Why was “The Walking Dead” not mentioned in the last post?  Well, because I could not mention every zombie book or film or show in any single post.  TWD is a great show, good characters and acting and is an instant cult classic.  Zombies in the show are treated as an environmental antagonist, much like the cold in movies that take place in the tundra.  Environmental antagonists are a character in their own right and offer up issues of their own on top of everything else the characters have to deal with.

Because of this, while there are individual scenes that are scare-worthy, the show itself is not that scary overall.  And now, with all the main characters from the prison group torn asunder and left to their own devices, we get to see more character development, with zombies in the background.

I like TWD.  I watch it regularly.  It is not, however, my favorite adaptation of zombies in film.

Zombie Failure

Aside

OK, so a while back, I asked a question of whether or not I would either write a short book or do a video blog.  Well, long story short, I will be writing a short book.  Now, while I have set up a distribution point on Amazon.com, I have not actually uploaded anything or set a price.  Sorry, wont be free, but it wont be expensive, either.

It’s Been A While

Aside

Yep, it has been a while.  More than 3 months, by the look of it.  That’s ok, not a huge amount of stuff to go through.  In fact, the largest was a trip to California (San Francisco, Napa and Sacramento).  It was awesome.  I went solo.  Walked all over SanFran for most of the week (48 miles, actually) and then took 2 days in Napa Valley.  The weather was perfect, in the 50’s and 60’s.  I had a convertible Mustang GT for the duration.  The latter part of the trip was in Sacramento to see my great uncle Floyd.

Other than that, not a lot happened the last couple months.  So, until next time.

I turn 40 today.

Aside

I am not 100% sure how I feel about it.  It doesn’t bother me, I feel no different than I did the day before.  But on the other hand, the thought that I have passed my half-way point keeps popping into my head.  “They” say you are only as old as you feel, but I believe you are only as old as you allow yourself to feel.  Am I in perfect shape?  No.  Do I have more aches and pains than I did 10 years ago?  Of course.  The body will age, there is nothing stopping that.  Keep the mind young with games and fun and the right friends, and you will always feel young.  I know I am a lot better off, even physically, than a lot of people I know much younger than me.  The difference is state of mind.  I could complain my feet hurt after fair days (they do) or that my back and shoulders are sore from the lifting at the Forge (they do) or that I want to stay in bed until I wake up every day (I do) but guess what?  Complaining about something isn’t going to change the facts.  It is just going to make those around you roll their eyes and think “here he goes again, complaining.”  If it bothered me so much, then I would change what I do.  I love fair, sore feet and all, and I love working at Legacy Forge, sore shoulders and back and all, and I don’t get as much sleep as I want, but I get enough.

To those who complain about getting older – do something about it.  Find something to do, new set of friends.  Get out of the house and get a hobby.  It is much better than sitting and being half-dead on the couch in a pity-party.
